This rich diversity of scenery, people, fauna and flora is endless. The landscapes and climates differ between the nine provinces and this diversity is epitomised in the words of Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu when he coined the words "Rainbow Nation" - which so aptly encompasses the experience of South Africa.
Yet the journey would not be complete without dipping into some of the cultural experiences on offer, including museums, original rock art (dating back to the San people), opera, dance – both traditional and classical, art galleries, music – jazz, kwela, classical, pop etc. to the many open air markets and festivals occurring across the nation on any given weekend.
For the more active tourist, the choices are unlimited, including surfing, diving, rock-climbing, mountaineering, horseback safaris, on and off-road cycling, shark cage diving, river rafting, skiing, hiking, kayaking to name a few. Sporting events can also be enjoyed either from the comfort of an armchair, or with the boisterous crowds that vehemently support their rugby, cricket or soccer teams!
